A Story Keeper is a grand responsibility in the realm of Fairy TaleFairy TaleThe realm of Fairy Tale is a region within Spring of the Fey Wild, where reality is governed by the rules of storytelling. Its residents always seek to take action that will "tell the best story". But, that's usually their best story. If they succeed, the tale is recorded in their Story Keeper's Book of Tales, to be remembered forever more. Notably, these tales must be true. They literally can't be untrue, or they won't make it into the book, per the rules of the realm. As Fairy Tale is a realm. Each region has its own Story Keeper, chosen by their liege lord. Each Story Keeper maintains a Book of Tales to contain the collective memory of all the faerie of the region, so tales stored within are kept & known by all. An ancient practice, being a Keeper is a hallowed honor, as it takes one outside of the usual hierarchy of age that most fey abide by to those who know them. At least, in a limited sense, and to a point.
Each Story Keepers' book works appropriately to their region. Some are literal books. Some are metaphysical. And others still are only books in name.
On the topic of names, a Story Keeper can't have their name stolen in the true Fey way, unless the thief could've stolen the name from their liege lord. Some let this go to their head (not naming names, but CiaranCiaran Stormshade / Story Keeper of the Blarney loves to let people know who they're talking to).
